Governor Jose Alvarez has given assurance that health and law enforcement authorities in Balabac are keeping a tight watch of Palawan’s “backdoor” to ensure that no COVID-19 carriers will gain entry to the province.

A post Tuesday by the Provincial Information Office (PIO) said Governor Alvarez met with Balabac mayor Shuaib Astami recently to discuss protocols on health that need to be enforced on returning Palaweños coming from Malaysia, and for fishermen returning from fishing operations.

“Nandito nga ako sa Balabac ngayon, nakipagpulong ako sa mayor ng Balabac na ‘yong ating last border yong mga nanggagaling sa Malaysia ay dapat huwag naman nating hindi papasukin,” the PIO quoted Alvarez as saying.

Citing the case of the fishermen from Bancalaan, Alvarez said returning Filipinos from Malaysia should be welcomed but placed under a 14-day quarantine.

“Tulad noong mga mangingisda sa Bancalaan, i-quarantina lang ng 14 days. Pumayag naman, pagkatapos noon pauuwin na din,” the PIO statement further quoted Alvarez.
