A resolution requesting Mayor Lucilo Bayron to create at least one additional plantilla position for daycare workers in every city barangay was proposed at the City Council Monday.

Authored by councilors Peter Maristela and Gregorio Ventura, the resolution is aimed at giving the workers security of tenure, with it attached benefits imposed by the law.

Councilor Maristela told Palawan News in an interview Monday that this proposed measure is necessary to prevent daycare workers in barangay levels from being politicized.

“Mas maganda rin ‘yon hindi papalit-palit at the same time, hindi maapektuhan ng politika. Alam naman natin kapag nag-palit ng mayor, palit na naman ‘yong mga day care workers kasi nga mga job order lang sila,” said Maristela.

Maristela reiterated that being regularized will increase their salary from around P270 daily to the minimum wage required by law, which he said may reach up to P14,000 per month.

In their proposed draft resolution, they noted that there are existing 157 child development workers that help “children and families who cannot afford private schools for early education”.

He also said that the city government needs the service of the daycare workers considering that almost every barangay in Puerto Princesa already has a daycare center.

He also added this measure will help solidify the expertise of the workers as they stay in their position throughout the years.
