Palawan 3rd District Rep. Gil Acosta Jr. urged senators to focus on pending legislation instead of politics, saying government work should remain the priority despite ongoing controversies and political disputes.
Acosta told reporters on Tuesday that there is still ample time before the next elections and that public officials should concentrate on measures that would benefit the public.
“Batuhan ng putik masyado pang maaga. Trabaho muna dahil isang taon pa lang nakalipas bago mag-election at dalawang taon pa. So tsaka na muna ang politika.” Acosta said, noting that the country still has several important bills awaiting action.
His remarks came as political tensions continue to surround the Senate inquiry.
Acosta said political mudslinging has started too early and could distract officials from addressing legislative priorities.
He pointed to several pending measures, including the proposed Western Philippines Medical Center and a Magna Carta for barangay officials, which he said deserve lawmakers’ attention.
“Trabaho muna tayo ngayon. E paano ngayon? Ilan ang bilang 12-11? Paano na yung mga batas natin dito? So ang aking suggestion sa ating mga senador, tama na muna ang politika, total 2028 pa naman ng eleksyon, trabaho muna tayo. Ang dami pa nakabinbin ang Western Philippines Medical Center, dapat ma-aproba na.,” he said.
Acosta said barangay officials play a critical role in delivering public services and should be given support through legislation.
He also stressed that public officials are elected to represent not only themselves but also the people and communities they serve.
The lawmaker called on government leaders to focus on governance and public service while allowing legal and investigative processes to take their course.
