ICF gets new fire truck

The Iwahig Corrections Facility (ICF) has received its first fire truck under the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) modernization program that would help to protect its historical buildings and respond to immediate needs in nearby barangays.

Information officer, CTO II Levi Evangelista, said that the seven operating prison and penal farms in the Philippines including ICF received a fire truck each with 3,000-liter capacity as part of the RA 10575.

“For readiness, whatever need and to maintain and safe keep the buildings lalo na may historical buildings tayo.  Sabi nga ni superintendent, even nearby barangays sa Puerto Princesa na need ng assistance, ay tutulong si IPPF,” he said.

The fire truck will be used by four sub-colonies of the penal prison in Iwahig, Sta. Lucia, Inagawan, and Montible.

Some 45 personnel currently undergo 3-day training with the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Puerto Princesa for basic operation of the fire truck and fire safety.

“Sa mga bata-bata pa na personnel natin na kailangan ng serbisyo kung magkakaroon, huwag naman sana. Disaster preparedness— instruction din na ito ay hindi lang para sa pangangalaga ng ating buildings at pangangailangan ng nearby barangays na kaya natin abutin ay tutulong tayo,” he said.

The fire truck arrived in ICF on August 9 and is expected the arrival of a unit of an ambulance which schedule is yet to be announced.
