El Nido family seeks help for children with unknown medical condition

EL NIDO, Palawan – Unable to see a specialist due to quarantine measures, a family in Barangay Teneguiban in this town is seeking help for their two children who are suffering from an unknown illness.

The children, aged 12 and 9, are suffering from a disorder that makes it hard for them to walk. According to their mother, both children started having difficulty walking at around the age of one. Due to financial hardship, the family has been unable to have the children regularly checked up and diagnosed for their condition.

The family is unable to bring the two children to a hospital due to the current enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) in El Nido. They own a motorcycle, which means that they will likely be flagged at the checkpoints.

Aside from seeking assistance for transportation, they are also in need of financial assistance in order to provide for the children’s basic needs.

“Financial talaga ang kailangan namin. Kapag dadalhin sila sa ospital, talagang mangangailangan na kami,” said Maberit. Her husband, a farmer, barely makes enough to make ends meet, while the mother is a housewife.
