City gov’t distributes veggie seeds

The City Agriculture Office (CAO) and the Oplan Linis Program of the city government are distributing vegetable seeds to Puerto Princesa residents as a sustainable means of food security amid the COVID-19 crisis.

Oplan Linis program manager and special events officer Andrew Manlawe said Tuesday that some 93 city residents were already given vegetable seeds on Monday.

“Ang seeds ay galing sa CAO. Ito ay nire-repack natin upang ipamahagi sa mga tao,” he said.

The Puerto Princesa residents are being prioritized as the city government is doing the door-to-door delivery to those who want to avail of the free seeds.

Request can be made by commenting on the Oplan Linis PPC official Facebook page using the following format: name, address, phone number, and chosen seed.

The farming seeds available include okra, eggplant, string beans, chili, pechay, water spinach (kangkong), and luffa gourd (patola).

There are some 191 seed packs available but the project will run until seeds were made available from CAO.

“Ito ay para sa home gardening, para matulungan ‘yong mga residente na gusto magtanim. Pero sa ngayon, inuuna natin ang mga nasa city proper kasi we have limited means para sa delivery,” he added.

The Oplan Linis personnel had also planted some garden plants at the open spaces in front of the City Coliseum last week.
