GSIS extends due dates for housing loans; releases pensions early

The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) has extended the due dates for the housing loan and rental payments, and released early pensions for members amidst the coronavirus crisis.

According to a statement posted on March 22, the due date for housing loan payments and rental payment for investment properties falling due this March could be paid on May 10 without penalties.

President and general manager Rolando Ledesma Macasaet stated pensioners who usually claim pensions on April 8 may claim it earlier.

But we will release it before April 8,” Macasaet stated.

GSIS added that it will soon release emergency loans for members and pensioners after fixing their system to activate the nationwide implementation.

GSIS will offer a P20,000 emergency loan to active members and pensioners with an interest rate of 6 percent, payable in three years.

The state pension fund stated that all GSIS offices nationwide are closed to the public until 12 April.

However, GSIS continues to accept loan applications for Conso-loan, Policy Loan, and Pension Loan through the GSIS kiosks.

“Loan applications of active members require prior approval by Agency Authorized Officers or Liaison Officers (AAOs/LOs) before GSIS can credit the loan amount to the individual borrower’s account,” according to the statement.

Meanwhile, the state pension fund stated that measures implemented are also in response with Committee on Health and Demography chair Sen. Bong Go appeal for GSIS to waive penalties for delayed remittances, release pensions early, and grant emergency loans.
