Palaweño centenarians to receive 100k cash gift

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is set to award P100,000 each to 14 centenarians in Palawan this year.

They are part of the 34 in the MIMAROPA region that will receive the cash grant, said Jason Eco Oliverio, information officer for Listahanan of the DSWD Field Office.

“From the 34 centenarians na makakatanggap ng cash gift this year, 11 galing sa ibang bayan ng Palawan at tatlo ang galing sa Puerto Princesa City. Bale 14 lahat ang mabibiyan ng cash gifts sa Palawan.

They are from: Bataraza-2, Cuyo-1, Roxa-1, Narra-2, Quezon-2, Rizal-2, and San Vicente-1. Puerto Princesa City, on the other hand, has three.

The Centenarians Acts of 2016 or Republic Act 10868 states “that all Filipinos who live to 100 years, otherwise known as a “centenarian”, will receive a gift of P100,000 whether living in the Philippines or not.”

Senior citizen sector focal person Lordessa Fe Gilera said the centenarians will receive their cash gifts as soon as validations have been completed.

“Of this year’s target centenarians, three were already paid P300,000. There are 34 centenarians who are subject for validation in terms of age, while some of them are now complying with all the requirements,” she said.

The Department has allocated P3.9 million for the 2019 centenarian targets, said Gilera.

Based on DSWD records, a total of P2.3 million cash gifts had been released to seven centenarians in Oriental Mindoro; four in Occidental Mindoro; one in Marinduque; five in Romblon; and six in Palawan in 2018.

Under the law, centenarians will also receive a plaque of recognition and a cash incentive from their respective local government units.
