“Kensad” moves closer to becoming Narra’s first Critical Habitat

Sultan Peak or “Kensad” in Narra, Palawan has moved closer to becoming the municipality’s first designated Critical Habitat after the Barangay Council of Princess Urduja approved a resolution supporting its proposed establishment.

The resolution was approved and signed by the barangay council, signaling its support for the conservation designation covering the forested area of Sultan Peak.

The Centre for Sustainability PH said Friday, September 18, the development marks “one step forward” toward securing the proposed Critical Habitat and protecting the area’s forests and wildlife.

“The Barangay Council of Princess Urduja has approved and signed a resolution expressing its strong support for the proposed establishment of Sultan Peak ‘Kensad’ as a Critical Habitat,” the organization said.

The group said the milestone could pave the way for the first Critical Habitat designation in Narra.

“This momentous milestone brings us one step closer to designating the first Critical Habitat in the Municipality of Narra, Palawan,” it said.

The Centre for Sustainability PH credited Rainforest Trust for supporting the conservation initiative, while also recognizing the Barangay Council of Princess Urduja for its commitment to forest protection.

It also thanked the Palawan Council for Sustainable Development Staff (PCSDS) for providing technical expertise and guidance throughout the conservation work.

The proposed designation is intended to help protect Sultan Peak’s forests and wildlife while supporting the communities surrounding the area.

The Centre for Sustainability PH said the initiative seeks to secure a future in which “Sultan Peak’s forests, wildlife, and communities can thrive for generations to come.”
