The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) MIMAROPA inspected four jail facilities across Palawan from September 6 to 8 to assess security measures, facility conditions, operational needs, and the welfare of persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) and jail personnel.
BJMP MIMAROPA Regional Director Jail Senior Superintendent Deogracias F. De Castillo led the inspections at the Narra District Jail, Brooke’s Point District Jail, Puerto Princesa City Jail, and Taytay District Jail.
He was joined by Assistant Regional Director for Operations Jail Senior Superintendent Ray L. De Luna and other regional office personnel.
On September 8, the team inspected the male and female dormitories of the Puerto Princesa City Jail. Officials checked the jail perimeter, armory, closed-circuit television system, administrative office, kitchen, isolation building, and PDL dormitories.
De Castillo also met with PDLs to hear their concerns and assess their conditions inside the facility. A “talk to troops” was held with jail personnel to discuss operational issues and emphasize discipline, vigilance, and professionalism.
The team visited the Taytay District Jail on the same day, inspecting its perimeter, kitchen, isolation area, and PDL dormitories. BJMP officials also met with personnel to address operational concerns and strengthen coordination in the performance of their duties.
“The activity underscores the BJMP MIMAROPA leadership’s continuing commitment to effective jail management, personnel welfare, facility security, and the humane treatment and rehabilitation of PDL,” the agency said following the Taytay inspection.
The visits followed inspections at the Narra and Brooke’s Point district jails on September 6.
In Narra, the team checked the jail perimeter, facilities, and areas occupied by PDLs. Officials also met with jail personnel to discuss operational matters and reinforce existing policies and procedures.
At the Brooke’s Point District Jail, the inspection covered the perimeter, armory, CCTV system, administrative office, kitchen, isolation building, and PDL dormitory. The regional officials also spoke with personnel and PDLs about their concerns and the facility’s operational needs.
BJMP MIMAROPA said the inspections and personnel engagements form part of its continuing monitoring of jail facilities across the region.
