The Office of the Ombudsman will push through with filing non-bailable plunder charges against Sen. Rodante Marcoleta this week, saying protest rallies will not affect the case.
Ombudsman Jesus Remulla made the assurance on Wednesday amid demonstrations supporting Marcoleta following the announcement that the senator would face charges over alleged undeclared campaign donations totaling ₱75 million.
“There’s no selective justice in this country when it comes to the Ombudsman. We will still push through with the filing of the case against Senator Marcoleta,” Remulla said during the launch of the National Anti-Corruption Strategy in Pasay City.
He stressed that the case will proceed as planned.
“Nothing is changing. Nothing has changed. We will file. We will do our job,” he said.
On Monday, Remulla announced that the Ombudsman would file plunder charges before the Sandiganbayan after Marcoleta admitted receiving ₱75 million in campaign funds during the 2025 elections while serving as a congressman.
Remulla reiterated that the Ombudsman will continue to investigate and prosecute public officials whenever evidence supports the filing of charges, regardless of their position.
His remarks came as the Office of the Ombudsman launched a Field Investigation Course designed to strengthen the skills of its investigators in conducting professional, objective, and evidence-based investigations.
The training is intended to enhance the agency’s efforts in promoting accountability, good governance, and the integrity of public service.
