Palawan logs 736 flu-like illness cases, two deaths

Cases of Influenza-Like Illness (ILI) in Palawan rose by 19% during the first 23 morbidity weeks of 2026, with 736 cases and two deaths recorded, according to surveillance data released by the Department of Health (DOH)-MIMAROPA.

The figures were contained in a June 18 epidemiological update prepared by the Center for Regional Epidemiology and Technology Enhancement (CRE@TE) under DOH Regional Office MIMAROPA, based on data from the Philippine Integrated Disease Surveillance and Response (PIDSR) 4B Database and the Epidemiology and Disease Surveillance Information System (EDCS-IS) 4B Database.

From Morbidity Weeks 1 to 23, Palawan recorded 736 ILI cases, up from 616 cases reported during the same period in 2025. Of the total cases, 734 patients survived while two deaths were reported.

Puerto Princesa City accounted for the largest number of infections with 437 cases, followed by Aborlan with 70, Araceli with 37, Rizal with 34, and Bataraza with 33.

The report also showed significant increases in several municipalities compared with the same period last year, including Aborlan, which posted a 600% increase from 10 cases in 2025 to 70 cases this year. Coron recorded a rise from one case to 15 cases, while Narra increased from nine to 25 cases.

Meanwhile, declines were recorded in several areas, including Balabac, where cases dropped from 41 to two, Linapacan from 16 to two, and Rizal from 56 to 34.

Recent transmission remained concentrated in Puerto Princesa City, which reported 26 of the province’s 47 cases recorded during Morbidity Weeks 21 to 23.

Health authorities also identified three active ILI clusters in Puerto Princesa City as of Morbidity Week 23. Barangay Santa Monica recorded four cases, while Barangays San Jose and San Miguel each logged three cases.

Weekly surveillance data showed the highest number of cases was recorded in Morbidity Week 2 with 82 cases. Case counts generally declined in succeeding weeks, with 18 cases reported in Morbidity Week 23.

Five municipalities—Agutaya, Cagayancillo, Cuyo, Kalayaan, and Magsaysay—reported no ILI cases during the monitoring period.

The report forms part of DOH-MIMAROPA’s routine disease surveillance efforts to monitor trends and detect potential outbreaks across the region.
