Prov’l govt, towns sign pact to strengthen services for OFWs

The Provincial Government of Palawan and several municipal governments signed a memorandum of agreement with the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW)-MIMAROPA on June 13 to strengthen the delivery of programs and services for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and their families.

The Convergence MOA signing, held at the Legislative Building of the Provincial Capitol, formalized cooperation between the DMW, the provincial government, and participating local government units to improve access to employment assistance, welfare services, reintegration programs, skills development initiatives, and other support mechanisms for migrant workers.

Gov. Amy Roa Alvarez led the Provincial Government of Palawan’s participation in the agreement, joined by representatives of partner government agencies involved in implementing programs for OFWs.

According to the DMW, the convergence initiative seeks to bring government services closer to communities through stronger coordination among national agencies and local governments.

The agreement is expected to enhance the accessibility and efficiency of services for OFWs and their families across Palawan, particularly in municipalities where migrant workers play a significant role in local economies through remittances and overseas employment.

The partnership also reinforces the provincial government’s commitment to supporting programs that protect the welfare of OFWs and recognize their contribution to the development of both Palawan and the country.

Under the convergence framework, participating agencies and local governments will work together to ensure that migrant workers and their families can more easily access government assistance before deployment, while working abroad, and upon their return to the Philippines.
