Police and media security officials in MIMAROPA have moved to tighten coordination on the handling of media-related cases, as authorities review monitored incidents and reaffirm efforts to protect journalists in the region.
The discussion was held during the Conference on Status Updates on Monitored Media Killing Cases in MIMAROPA on June 9, conducted via Zoom and participated in by the Police Regional Office MIMAROPA (PRO MIMAROPA) and the Presidential Task Force on Media Security (PTFoMS).
The meeting focused on tracking the status of ongoing investigations, identifying gaps in case handling, and strengthening coordination mechanisms aimed at improving the resolution of cases involving members of the media.
Representatives from PRO MIMAROPA included officials from the Regional Investigation and Detective Management Division (RIDMD) and the Regional Public Information Office (RPIO), along with investigators from Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, and Puerto Princesa City, and representatives from local police units across the region. PTFoMS officials also took part in the conference.
During the review, PRO MIMAROPA presented updates on monitored media-related cases and discussed ongoing investigative steps with PTFoMS counterparts as part of continuing efforts to ensure accountability and faster case resolution.
The session also served as a coordination platform for law enforcement and media security stakeholders, allowing agencies to align procedures and reinforce collaboration in handling sensitive cases involving journalists.
In a statement, Acting Regional Director PBGEN Christopher R. Dela Cruz underscored the role of media in governance and public accountability.
“Media practitioners play a vital role in keeping the public informed and promoting transparency and accountability. PRO MIMAROPA remains committed to ensuring their safety, strengthening investigative efforts, and working closely with partner agencies to support an environment where members of the press can perform their duties freely, responsibly, and without fear,” Dela Cruz said.
He added that the regional police office remains committed to the prompt resolution of media-related cases and continued cooperation with partner agencies.
The initiative reflects ongoing efforts by PRO MIMAROPA and PTFoMS to strengthen journalist protection mechanisms and improve investigative coordination across the region.
