Authorities seized two illegal chainsaws and recovered a live Palawan hill mynah, locally known as kiyaw, during an enforcement operation on March 12 in Barangay Magsaysay, Aborlan, Palawan.
According to the Palawan Council for Sustainable Development Staff (PCSDS), the Enforcement Team Central and Special Operations Team responded to reports of alleged charcoal-making using chainsaws. The operation was conducted with the support of the Provincial Government of Palawan Peace and Security Cluster.
Responding teams found two men cutting a mangium tree using two chainsaw units. An inspection showed that the equipment had no Certificate of Registration (COR), prompting authorities to immediately confiscate the chainsaws.
In a separate action in the same barangay, another PCSDS enforcement team recovered a live Palawan hill mynah after receiving a report about the illegal possession of the protected bird.
The seized chainsaws were brought to the PCSDS Operations Center for documentation and proper disposition, while the rescued bird was turned over to the Palawan Wildlife Rescue and Conservation Center (PWRCC) for proper care.
PCSDS reminded the public that the use of illegal chainsaws and the capture or possession of protected wildlife are strictly prohibited.
The agency also urged residents to support environmental protection efforts by reporting illegal activities to authorities.
