City Oplan Linis workers were already on the streets while most residents were still asleep on New Year’s Day.
Dreu Manlawe of the Oplan Linis Program said in a post that around 2 a.m. on January 1, their personnel began clearing major roads and public spaces as part of the annual Bukang Liwayway cleanup.
The activity took place hours after New Year celebrations, when debris from firecrackers and trash were still scattered across the city.
The early operation aimed to make sure roads were clean and safe before traffic increased.
Personnel from Oplan Linis were joined by workers from the City Engineering Department, the City Solid Waste Management Office, and the Anti-Crime Group.
Crews were deployed to major streets, parks, and other public areas.
Manlawe said the cleanup is done before dawn every year to protect the public.
“Layunin ng aktibidad na tiyaking malinis at ligtas ang mga pangunahing kalsada matapos ang selebrasyon ng Bagong Taon, partikular na ang iniwang kalat mula sa mga paputok at iba pang gamit sa pagdiriwang,” Manlawe said.
He said the program is not only about cleaning but also about reminding residents of shared responsibility.
The Oplan Linis office also urged residents to help keep the city clean throughout 2026 by properly disposing of trash and being mindful of public spaces.
