The city of Puerto Princesa has collected nearly ₱99.8 million in real property taxes (RPT) from January to October 2025, representing 56% of its ₱177.5 million target for the year.
The City Treasurer’s Office credited much of the success to its “Tax Campaign Awareness” program, conducted during barangay meetings to encourage residents to pay their taxes and explain how their contributions support city development.
Under existing law, 2% of total real property tax collections go to the basic tax for the general fund, which is used for programs and projects such as medical services, infrastructure, and other public services. Meanwhile, 1% of the collection goes to the Special Education Fund (SEF), managed by the Local School Board, to finance the construction of school buildings, educational trainings, sports programs, and other education-related activities.
In addition, the city government has granted a tax amnesty for delinquent taxpayers until July 5, 2026, under Republic Act 12001, or the Real Property Valuation and Assessment Reform Act (RPVARA). This allows property owners to settle obligations from the second half of 2024 and earlier. The tax amnesty aims to reduce the backlog in collections and encourage delinquent taxpayers to settle their accounts with the city.
The City Treasurer’s Office also continues to coordinate with barangays to ensure residents have accurate information on tax obligations and payment options. Officials say that timely tax payments are essential not only to meet collection targets but also to fund programs and projects that directly benefit the local community.
