Barangay Maoyon in Puerto Princesa City enforced a force evacuation on the afternoon of August 27 as the Maoyon River continued to rise due to nonstop heavy rains.
Barangay captain Earl Edrene Dilla said the evacuation was prompted by the sounding of the flood alarm system in the area, signaling the need for residents near the river to leave for safer ground.
The Maoyon Elementary School, Douglas S. Hagedorn Multi-Purpose Hall (SK Hall), and Edward S. Hagedorn Multi-Purpose Hall (Barangay Hall) were opened to shelter affected families.
He added that their Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Team (BDRRMT) was activated to help residents.
Dilla also reminded other residents in low-lying areas to evacuate and prioritize the safety of their families, especially children and the elderly. He advised them to bring essential items and important documents if possible.
