Puerto Princesa’s real-time data system earns MIMAROPA award

Puerto Princesa’s system for gathering real-time demographic data in all barangays has been recognized as a model for human development in MIMAROPA, earning the city the 2025 Rafael M. Salas Regional Kaunlarang Pantao Award in the city category.

The Comprehensive Household Information System (CHIS) collects and updates data that help the local government plan projects, deliver disaster aid, and support development efforts.

Barangay officials take part in the collection process, while the non-government group A Single Drop for Safe Water and its partners provide the technology.

Funded by the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO) under Earl Timbancaya’s leadership, CHIS is jointly implemented by the City Health Office’s Population Control Division and Nutrition Office, the City Social Welfare and Development Office, and barangay officials.

City Population Officer Annaliza Herrera received the award on August 12 from MIMAROPA Commission on Population and Development Regional Director Reynaldo Wong on behalf of Mayor Lucilo Bayron.

Herrera thanked the award organizers and acknowledged the support of city offices and barangay leaders.

The Rafael M. Salas Kaunlarang Pantao Award recognizes institutions and individuals for significant contributions to population and development.

It is named after the first Filipino executive director of the United Nations Population Fund.

Puerto Princesa representatives also won the Adolescent Youth Health Development Jingle Making Contest, with teachers Lei Angelie R. Domasia, Marcelino Javarez Jr., and Pedro L. Gambalan Jr. from Sta. Monica Elementary School taking home ₱10,000 for their song “Kabataan ay Kinabukasan.”

The jingle is now used as the signature song of the Center for Population Development in MIMAROPA youth programs.
