A king cobra (Ophiophagus hannah) measuring approximately 10 feet in length and five inches in diameter was rescued on May 20 after it was found hiding under a bed in a house in Sitio Libtong, Barangay Iraan.
It was rescued by personnel from the Palawan Council for Sustainable Development (PCSD) and the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) of Rizal.
The Rizal Municipal Information Office (MIO) said in a report that the snake weighed around 10 kilograms and was safely released back into the forest, far from residential areas.
Following the incident, MENRO-Rizal reminded residents to immediately contact their office if they encounter any snakes or wildlife to ensure both public safety and the protection of the animals.
The king cobra, native to Asia, is the world’s longest and among the most venomous snake species.
Feared not only by humans but also by other snakes, its primary prey, the king cobra plays an important role in controlling snake populations in the wild.
