A netizen captured on video what appeared to be an unusual movement of seawater on April 27, at Tindog Beach, Barangay Langogan, Puerto Princesa City.
Ylonee Areja Yala Española, the uploader, said they were on their way home to the town of Roxas from Puerto Princesa City when they noticed something strange in the sea along the way, prompting her to record it.
“Tindog Beach po ang pagkakaalam ko. Sakop ito ng Langongan, mga hapon ko ito nakuhanan habang pauwi kami ng Roxas galing bayan ng Puerto, 3 p.m. po,” Española told Palawan News.
In the uploaded video, one of her companions can be heard saying that what they witnessed was a waterspout, which reportedly lasted for more than a minute.
This is not the first time that residents of Palawan have captured videos of an ipo-ipo or waterspout. Several videos taken by residents of Puerto Princesa and other towns in Palawan have already been reported by Palawan News previously.
According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), a waterspout is a swirling column of air along with water mist that develops over a lake or sea.
Because certain waterspouts are as hazardous as tornadoes, NOAA warns that anybody seeing one should stay at least 90 degrees away from it and not try to study it.
