A fugitive who escaped from the Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm (IPPF) in Palawan more than two decades ago was finally recaptured on March 22 in Negros Occidental, the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) reported today.
The escapee, who had been serving time for theft at the Inagawan Sub-Colony of IPPF, was arrested in Sitio Bunga, Barangay Quintin Remo, Moises Padilla, after 22 years of evading authorities. He had escaped custody on September 9, 2002.
His re-arrest was the result of a joint operation led by the IPPF Fugitive Recovery Team (IPPF-FRT), the Police Intelligence Unit (PIU) of the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office, and the Moises Padilla Municipal Police Station.
The operation was supervised by IPPF Superintendent Chief Supt. Gary A. Garcia and supported by BuCor Director General Gregorio Pio P. Catapang Jr., who has backed inter-agency efforts to track down and apprehend fugitives.
Authorities have yet to release the identity of the fugitive as of press time.
