The Department of Tourism (DOT) MIMAROPA has demanded that the local administration take quick action in response to a social media complaint from a visitor over the unclean bathrooms and inadequate amenities at the Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park (PPSRNP).
The city administration has been urged by the tourism regional office to resolve issues brought up by a recent visitor about the state of the PPSRNP’s facilities.
In a letter dated March 1, Department of Tourism (DOT) MIMAROPA officer-in-charge Regional Director Roberto P. Alabado III informed Mayor Lucilo R. Bayron about an open letter by tourist Rose B. Mangahas, who aired her concerns on Facebook after visiting the UNESCO World Heritage Site and New 7 Wonders of Nature.
Mangahas conveyed dissatisfaction regarding the poor state of cleanliness and upkeep of essential amenities, especially restrooms and other facilities.
She also added that the food provided at the restaurant fell short of expectations.
“As travelers seek quality experiences that offer comfort, convenience, and value for money, it is essential for PPSRNP to uphold global tourism standards,” Alabado stated in his letter.
He pointed out the need for clean and well-equipped restrooms and shower facilities, adding that a positive visitor experience is crucial in sustaining tourism.
In response, the management of the PPSRNP recognized the concerns and gave the public the assurance that actions are being done to improve the facilities.
PPSRNP Superintendent Elizabeth Maclang stated that specific comfort rooms are accessible at Sabang Wharf and near the park entrance; nonetheless, she acknowledged that there is a need for more improvements to be made.
“We are actively working to improve accessibility and maintenance to better serve our guests,” Maclang said in a statement.
“We also recognize the need to coordinate with local businesses to ensure a more pleasant experience for visitors,” she added.
