Palawan province will generally experience good weather today, February 17, with some isolated rain showers expected in the southern part due to the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ), according to the state weather bureau.
Weather specialist Rhea Torres of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) stated that the ITCZ could bring scattered rains over parts of southern Palawan, while the rest of the province, including Puerto Princesa City and northern Palawan, will have clear to partly cloudy skies.
“Itong intertropical convergence zone naman or ITCZ ay maaaring magdulot din ng mga pag-ulan dito sa may katimugang bahagi or southern portions ng Mindanao, gayon din sa may Palawan,” said Torres.
In the city, temperatures are expected to range between 24°C and 31°C. Kalayaan Islands, on the other hand, may reach up to 32°C. The remainder of Luzon, including Metro Manila, is likewise anticipated to have favorable weather conditions, with the exception of the eastern regions of Northern and Central Luzon, where the northeast monsoon (amihan) and the shear line may bring about mild to moderate rainfall.
Torres added that it is possible that amihan may bring scattered rains to Batanes, Cagayan, and Apayao. Isabela and Aurora may see moderate to heavy rainfall as a result of the shear line, which will increase the likelihood of floods and landslides in places that are of low elevation.
Visayas and Mindanao will likewise enjoy generally pleasant weather, with the exception of some regions such as Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi, which may receive rain here and there as a result of the ITCZ.
Torres also said that there has been no gale warning issued for any of the coastal waters of the nation; nonetheless, fishermen and sailors should still take measures owing to the fact that the sea conditions in the northern sections of Luzon are moderate to rough.
