Biodynamic Philippines, in collaboration with the provincial government of Palawan, is celebrating 100 years of biodynamic farming with a free public lecture by Binita Shah, a renowned biodynamic preparation maker and farmer.
The lecture is scheduled to take place today, November 28, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., at the VJR Hall in the Provincial Capitol.
Biodynamic farming, an alternative agricultural practice proposed by Rudolph Steiner in 1924, adopts a holistic approach to farming. It integrates traditional farming techniques, livestock care, soil fertility management, and other components to create a self-sustaining farm ecosystem.
In Puerto Princesa City, Biodynamic Philippines, led by Dr. Grace Zozobrado-Hahn, spearheaded the initiative to promote biodynamic farming. As part of the global celebration of 100 years of biodynamic farming and its positive impact on human and environmental health, the organization has combined the event with the 2024 Asian Biodynamic Training and Networking Conference Philippines, highlighting agricultural practices across Southeast Asia.
Binita Shah, co-founder of SARG Vikas Samiti in Uttarakhand, India, is a key speaker at the event. Since 2003, her organization has promoted organic farming practices aligned with biodynamic principles. Driven by concerns over the high suicide rates among local farmers, Shah founded the non-profit to provide farmers with sustainable, alternative farming methods, ensuring a more reliable income from their efforts.
Dr. Zozobrado-Hahn emphasized that the partnership with the provincial government was essential to making the lecture free and accessible to the public, particularly for those interested in organic farming.
“Lahat naman kumakain. Everybody wants to eat healthy. That would be nice. Because in the end, yung input naman [nila] ang kailangan, ang gusto natin ay masuportahan ang mga consumer, suportahan ang mga farmers especially when it comes to organic farming,” she said.
