Fifty-six persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) at the Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm (IPPF) underwent pre-parole and pre-executive clemency evaluations on October 9 at the Regional Building in the Central Sub-Colony.
The activity, led by Senior Probation and Parole Officer OIC Robelle D. Cabrestante and her team from the Parole and Probation Administration (PPA), aimed to assess eligible PDLs being considered for parole or executive clemency.
The session opened with an orientation to familiarize participants with the process and requirements of parole and executive clemency. It focused on preparing the PDLs mentally and emotionally for the evaluation, fostering understanding and confidence before the interviews.
After the briefing, the 56 participants from various sub-colonies of IPPF underwent individual assessments and interviews to determine their eligibility and readiness for possible release.
According to the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor), the initiative is part of its continuing efforts to promote restorative justice and rehabilitation within the country’s correctional system.
BuCor Director General Gregorio Pio P. Catapang Jr., through IPPF Superintendent Chief Superintendent Gary A. Garcia, reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to implement programs that support reformation and reintegration of qualified PDLs.
