About 30,000 sacks of rice from San Jose, Occidental Mindoro, will be delivered to Palawan in October as part of the local buffer stock, provincial National Food Authority (NFA) general manager Osmundo Guinto, Jr. said.
Guinto said Tuesday they will sell the remaining imported milled rice (IMR) they have in the warehouse.
The provincial office of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has started to withdraw 835 bags out of the 2,000 it will purchase.
The NFA Palawan currently has 11,745 sacks of rice which Guinto assured will be sufficient to supply the demands of Palaweños.
Of the 23,000 bags of unhusked rice bought during the last quarter of 2018, about 18,000 sacks of rice will be milled.
“Sa Narra may sarili ng milling kaya anytime pwede kami mag-milling but ‘yong 23,000 kasi ay di ma-mill agad-agad. That’s why we need the help of private contractors kung talagang kailangan namin mag-mill,” he said.
