Two Palaweño athletes won gold medals in the recently concluded Batang Pinoy 2019 in Ilagan, Isabela.

Melbert Navarro and Erla Mae Garcia respectively won gold medals in the bantamweight and featherweight boxing divisions of the Batang Pinoy 2019 held in Isabela from March 17 to 23.

Navarro and Garcia are both from Taytay, northern Palawan, said Sunshine Cabiguen, chief of the Provincial Sports Division (PSD).

“Pinapasalamatan namin una si God, nagpro-provide ng good health at nag-iingat sa amin sa biyahe, at kay Governor Jose Alvarez kasi binigyan niya kami ng suporta, talagang all out support,” Cabiguen said.

Cabiguen said the two boxing athletes would not make it without the help of their coaches and trainers Rodolfo Alcala Jr., Toto Garcia, Danny Caabay, and Jude Ysabella.

Batang Pinoy is a multi-sport competition for Filipino athletes 15 years old and below.

Cabiguen said after Batang Pinoy, the PSD is now preparing them for the upcoming Sea Youth International Competition that will be held in Bacolod.
