The wounded soldier during the attack of the members of the New People’s Army in Barangay Calasaguen, Brooke’s Point was awarded a Wounded Personnel Medal by the Western Command, Tuesday at Camp. Gen. Artemio Ricarte Hospital.

The valiant soldier was Staff Sergeant Samuel Mofar, one of the members of the 24th Marine Company (24MC) of Marine Battalion Landing Team 4 (MBLT4) who conducted an operation together with some DENR personnel against illegal loggers.

During the encounter, which lasted for 10 minutes, Mofar was wounded. He was immediately aided and survived.

The award was given by VADM Rene Medina, Commander of Western Command accompanied by Brig. Gen. Charlton Sean Gaerlan, Commander of Joint Task Force-Peacock and Brig. Gen. Lauro N. Tianchon, Deputy Commander, Western Command.

Lieutenant Col. Stephen Penetrante, the spokesperson of the Western Command (WESCOM), said that the medal is awarded to selected soldiers who have shown bravery in field encounters.

“Ang basis natin sa award ay bravery, tapang ng sundalo sa pag-perform of their mission in spite of the harm and they have performed their duties at ‘yan po ay isa sa mga accomplishment nila na binibigyan sila ng pagkilala lalo na ‘yong important missions, mga task at duties na binibigay sa kanila, ina-awardan sila,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mofar is now in stable condition.
