The Western Command (WESCOM) said Monday it is aiming to step up its social media drive against insurgency and communism to a peaceful Palawan.
WESCOM spokesperson Lt. Col. Stephen Penetrante said the social media is a “powerful and effective platform” that the military can make use of to engage netizens to help in bringing out to a wider audience their peace objectives to maintain province’s peaceful environment.
He said it will also help in exposing the deceitful activities and messages that the enemies of the state are utilizing to gain sympathy from the public.
“Ang social media ay very powerful ‘yan. It can be a very effective platform kung mare-recognize ito para maipakita doon ‘yong intention ng AFP (Armed Forces of the Philippines) at ng Philippine government kung ano na kaya ang nais nyang gawin [para sa kapayapaan] at maipakita din ang mga obstacles,” he said.
Penetrante said their social media campaign has been there, but it was only this time they are putting an emphasis to it.
“Ito ay matagal na, actually, at ngayon lang nabigyang diin sapagkat ninanais na ng gobyerno kasama ang AFP for it to be become an instrument of the government, para makita ng mga tao ‘yong ginagawang deceptions ng mga communist-terrorist groups (CTGs),” he said during Monday’s WESCOM briefing with the media.
Penetrante said they also want to harmonize peace-maintaining inter-agency efforts and present them in the social media in such a way that is informative to ward off recruitment into the leftist movement.
