The city water district has temporarily stopped the operation of the Campo Uno dam in Barangay Irawan because of high water turbidity caused by flooding.

Taking to social media Thursday afternoon, the Puerto Princesa City Water District (PPCWD) said the Campo Uno water source operation remains temporarily closed due to heavy rains that are causing the river to be flooded.

“Dahil sa malakas at tuloy-tuloy na buhos ng ulan mula kagabi, ang ating Campo Uno source ay pansamantalang nakahinto ang operasyon hanggang ngayon,” it said.

PPCWD said when flooding in the mountainous parts of Irawan causes high turbidity, the water from the river becomes cloudy.

It said other water districts using surface water also experience the same problem when there is flooding because of heavy rains.

“Ang malakas na buhos ng ulan sa bundok ng Irawan ay nagiging rason upang bumaha at lumabo ang tubig mula sa ilog. Ang High Turbidity Problem o sobrang paglabo ng tubig ay nararanasan ng mga water district na gumagamit ng surface water bilang kanilang pinagkukunan ng tubig,” the PPCWD statement said.

As of this writing, the agency said the system pressure is only 0.6 pounds per square inch (psi), but what is needed to supply water to the poblacion area is 15 psi.

However, lorry trucks are continuously injecting water on the affected areas, it added.
