Vice President Leni Robredo has donated some 10,240 sets of personal protective equipment (PPE) to eight hospitals in Palawan.

Robredo on Tuesday said that the PPEs were procured out of some P47.59 million donations solicited by the Office of Vice President (OVP) through the Kaya Natin Movement.

“Nagiging possible ang patuloy nating pag-suporta sa ating mga frontliners dahil sa [donors]. Ang halagang ito ay makakapagbigay ng 108,054 PPE sets na sapat na magagamit ng 7,203 frontliners sa 15 araw ng trabaho [throughout the country],” she said.

The medical supplies were delivered to Ospital Ng Palawan and Adventist Hospital in Puerto Princesa City, Southern Palawan Provincial Hospital, Leoncio General Hospital, Rural Health Unit (RHU) in Brooke’s Point; Culion Sanitarium and General Hospital in Culion; Northern Palawan Provincial Hospital in Taytay; and RHU in Sofronio Española.

Dr. Melecio Dy, hospital director of ONP, expressed gratitude on the PPE donations received.

The PPEs, which were made out of taffeta silver black lining and designed by Filipino fashion designers, were reusable and can last up to several washes.

The donations were delivered by the help of the Philippine Coast Guard, through Tonet Rivera III and Angeles Aviation Club, because of the logistical challenges posed by the travel lockdown.

Robredo recently drew attention due to “illegal competition” with government donations alleged by Presidential Anti-Corruption Commission (PACC) Commissioner Manuelito Luna, which subsequently led to his axing.

Robredo claimed that the allegation made was a mere “distraction” and maintained to focus on answering requests made to OVP.

“Humihingi kami ng kaunting pasensya dahil medyo pahirapan ang supplies, habang patuloy ang pagpasok ng mga requests para sa ating mga frontliners—mula Batanes hanggang Tawi-Tawi,” she added.
