Commodore Sean Anthony U. Villa of the Philippine Navy (PN) has replaced Commodore Rommel Jason L. Galang as the new commander of the Naval Forces West (NAVFORWEST) in a change of command ceremony held at Naval Station Carlito Cunanan in Barangay Macarascas.

A statement sent Friday by the NAVFORWEST said the change of command between Villa and Galang on April 10 was presided by Rear Admiral Rommel Jude G. Ong, the acting flag officer in command of the Philippine Navy.

In his speech, Ong gave recognition to Galang who served as the commander of the NAVFORWEST for one year and seven months, securing and sustaining the peace in the province of Palawan, including the islands in the West Philippine Sea (WPS).

Similarly, he also expressed confidence that Villa will continue to steer the NAVFORWEST “in the apex of excellence.”

Galang, in his address, said he is grateful to all the sailors, marines, civilian employees, and stakeholders who helped him achieve the unit’s objectives, missions, and tasks.

Villa, the 36th NAVFORWEST commander, served as the assistant deputy chief of staff for operations, AJ3 at the General Headquarters of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).

He also previously commanded the Offshore Combat Force of the Philippine Fleet, providing administrative control to some of the Navy’s capital ships.

Several high-ranking civilian and other government agencies in the province of Palawan were also present to witness the event.
