City vice mayor Nancy Socrates urged parents and teachers Wednesday to strictly monitor the online activities of children due to prostitution and online pornography.

“Dapat ma-inform ‘yong parents na dapat they should be more vigilant kasi sila talaga ‘yong nakakahandle sa mga anak nila, siguro teachers din, siguro closer monitoring pa sa ating mga kabataan,” vice mayor Socrates said during the two-day capacity building seminar for violence against women and children recently.

She explained that a few months ago there were reports received by her office about minors using the computer shops for prostitution.

Socrates said using group chats on social media, an admin of the chat group interacts and close deals with potential clients.

She said that there are group chats which are used for uploading photos and videos of minors and are used to entice customers.

She urged government together with the community to address this as it has already become prevalent among minors in the city.

“It is very disturbing kasi sa Puerto Princesa ay nangyayari na ito at karamihan sa atin dito ipinanganak at lumaki never pang nangyari ito. Pero ito na ang katotohanan so we have to learn to address this problem,” she said.
