A man had two sons and he asked one to work in the vineyard. At first he refused but later changed his mind and went. He gave the same order to the other son who said that he will go but never went. Which one did the father’s will? Jesus asked the crowd and they answered; “ The first”. ( Mt. 21: 28-31). Yes, it was the first son who obeyed his father.
There are people who say a lot of words, make concessions and promises even swear by the heavens only to end up doing nothing because their words are empty bereft of sincerity. Some are driven by impulse not by purpose, others are just excited but not insightful, or are simply reacting without understanding. What makes the difference? Action over inaction!
What makes life meaningful is not so much the quantity of what we have, but the quality of life we live. In the end, what truly matters most is not so much what we have said as to what we have done. There are times when we have to change our plan or revise our decision if it means saving life, like a woman who in the beginning decided to have an abortion but later change course and decided to keep life over termination. Or a spouse who keeps distance and avoids the partner but for the sake of peace decided to break the ice of silence by striking a conversation. Failures, defeats and set- backs are common occurrences in life, but take courage to bounce back, refresh and renew. A quitter never wins and a winner never quits. Tough times never last, tough people do. At the end of the day, all is well than ends well so they say.
Sometimes many lip service is over sounding, but no doing. One resolution fulfilled is worth a thousand unfulfilled. The tongue has no bones but strong enough to break a heart. So be careful with your words. Action speaks louder than the loudest words. Jesus is the model of our course of action because he did what he said, and walked his talk. When he taught us about love he proved it by his arms and feet nailed on the cross for our sakes.
On the flip side, someone said that taking the time to be kind can make all the difference in someone’s day. Successful people always carry two things on their face: Smile and Silence. The only thing we take with us when we die, is what we have given away. ( Francis Cardinal George). Focus on what is beautiful even in your dark days. A person who truly loves you will never let you go down no matter the situation is. It’s bad when they don’t treat you right, but it’s tragic that you continue to allow it. When you have God, you have everything. When you have everything you should not worry about anything. Amen on that folks!!
In her Diary no. 326, St. Faustina wrote Jesus words; “ My gaze from this image is like My gaze from the cross.”
