Two suspected members of the New People’s Army (NPA) were arrested following an encounter Wednesday in Barangay Quinlongan, Quezon town, according to a report from the Western Command (WESCOM).
The encounter reportedly occurred at Sitio Bayabas at around noontime when soldiers belonging to the Joint Task Group South (JTGS) chanced upon a group of armed NPA which authorities said were led by a certain Alias Allan/Boywan.
A firefight which lasted 45 minutes led to the capture of the two still unidentified rebels and the recovery by government troops of an M60 machine gun, two M16 rifles, an M14 rifle, a bandolier with seven loaded magazines, two cellular phones, and other rebel paraphernalia.
The report said there was no casualty on the government side and did not indicate if there was any on the NPA side.
“We are tirelessly urging the remaining members of the New People’s Army here in Palawan to just lay down their arms, surrender and return to the fold of the law. We will help you to start new lives. But if you will not and chose to sow terror, we will go after you and hope will be far from your sight,” Lieutenant General Rozzano Briguez, commander of the WESCOM, said in a released statement.
WESCOM spokesperson Captain Cherryl Tindog said the captured rebel suspects will undergo debriefing procedures and will be endorsed to the PNP for the filing of cases.
