A tornado was seen by local residents near the island town of Cuyo, Palawan at 12 noon Monday.

Dr. Cesar Dimaala, Muncipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Officer, said the tornado was seen at the neighboring Pandan Island.

“It was initially small but it slowly evolved into a larger tornado,” Dimaala said.

Residents immediately took pictures and videos of the phenomenon.

He added that they were thankful that it did not move closer to land.

A tornado is a mobile, destructive vortex of violently rotating winds having the appearance of a funnel-shaped cloud and advancing beneath a large storm system.
