Narra town’s Arena Island Turtle Sanctuary has been nominated to the World Luxury Hotel 2018 search under the category “Luxury Private Island Resort.”
Carmelo Cortes, the campaigner for the turtle island’s nomination for the best hotels and resorts around the world, said Arena Island deserves to be nominated as it is able to operate as one of the model eco-tourism destinations in the southern part of the province.
“Arena Island Turtle Sanctuary Resort ensures a safe place for (turtles), whose survival increased from five to 90 percent with guests helping to release them under supervision,” he said.
The turtle sanctuary resort is in a four-hectare island area in Narra that has been nurturing the conservation of the sea turtle (pawikan) since 2006.
Cortes, who is now campaigning for residents of Palawan to participate in the voting on its website, believes the opportunity will further promote Arena Island in the world as a “travel destination” with great concern for its environment.
The World Luxury Hotel Awards, established in 2006 contains more than 90 award categories, where over 300,000 international travelers are voting each year.
In 2017, Arena Island won under the category of Luxury Honeymoon Resort and Luxury Private Island Resort.
