The city government is expecting an influx of guests and tourists during the celebration of Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park’s (PPSRNP) Subaraw Festival 2019 from November 2 to 11.
Michie Meneses, city tourism senior operations and promotions and marketing division chief, said they are expecting an increase of tourists in the upcoming Subaraw Festival from the contestants, tourists, and guests visiting the event.
“We are really expecting a lot of people sa Subaraw and ngayon, we will be having a national competition. Doon pa lang sa mga contestant ay marami na ang darating. Aside pa doon, sa mga bibisita lang at mag-to-tour,” she said.
The name Subaraw came from two words “suba”, which means river, and “taraw” which means limestone cliff. It is also in accordance with the Presidential Proclamation no. 816 declared November 11 as Puerto Princesa Underground River Day.
This year’s celebration includes the inter-school drum and lyre competition, Miss Subaraw, fun run, mobile legends tournament, cooking contest, frisbee tournament, solteros dance competition and so much more.
On November 2, the festival will open with a community parade in Sitio Sabang, Barangay Cabayugan with a photo and video exhibit, frisbee tournament, volleyball, and a music festival.
Followed by a beach football tournament, tree planting, Palarong Pinoy and opening program of avian treasures showcasing the natural heritage, a bicycle ride from Sabang wharf to city proper, basketball championship and opening salvo.
Mayor Lucilo Bayron announced during the flag ceremony on Monday that there will be city buses at city coliseum to transport interested individuals to watch the opening program in Sabang on Saturday.
“Mayroon tayong mga buses na nakapwesto sa city coliseum sa Sabado, lahat ng gusting manuod at makicelebrate sa opening ng Subaraw ay welcome,” he said.
Previously, the city government has joined the MassKara Festival in Bacolod City to promote local destinations and to present tour packages in line with the celebration of the Subaraw Festival in November.
“Nakita natin na may magandang market kasi ang mga pumupunta dito ay talagang maco-consider natin as traveller, we are actually promoting the Subaraw package rate para sa mga pupunta sa ating lungsod, kasama na doon lahat including the accommodations. Our participation in this kind of activity will help to promote our city and also our Subaraw Festival sa November,” Meneses said.
