Take courses online for free, TESDA urges Palaweños

The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) has encouraged Palaweños to take advantage of the free online course they are offering, citing its advantages compared to enrolling in accredited training schools.

“Mas malaking advantage, kasi hindi mo na kailangang mamasahe o umupa ng dormitory para lamang ma-access ‘yong gusto mong malaman na training.” Renato Pantaleon, TESDA provincial director, said last week.

The TESDA Online Program (TOP) is an online training portal developed by the agency for any individual to sign up and enroll for free. Upon completion of any course, the individual may apply for a national certification from any accredited TESDA training center.

Pantaleon noted they have an increasing number of people availing of the TOP course because of their access to the internet.

He stressed that the crucial part of the program is for an enrollee is to take a “competency assessment exam” in order to obtain a certificate that is recognized by local and international job employers.

“Iyung national certificate ‘yan ang hinahanap ng employer. Both local and abroad ginagamit ‘yang national certificate. Kaya ‘yong scholarship ng TESDA merong mandatory assessment para hindi lang training, sisiguraduhin ng training center na kukuha ng assessment ‘yong scholar,” he said.

Pantaleon said they currently have 274 courses available online under the TOP program.
