The Department of Agriculture (DA) called on young farmers to organize themselves and submit proposals for possible funding.
Mila Cacal of the Research and Experiment Station of the DA in Palawan, said the proponents will have to defend it to avail government funding or through easy access loans.
“Meron din mga easy access loan, basta viable yong project, gawan muna ng project proposal, pangalawa is it viable, financially viable, ipaglalaban yon kasi hindi lang basta,” she said.
Associations that would like to submit proposals should have operated for three years as a sign of stability of its financial operations.
Cacal said the DA has a production loan for proposals of viable studies and they could also consult the Agricultural Credit Policy Council (ACPC).
“Three years in operation, ang ibig sabihin noon syempre kapag ikaw cooperative, ano ba ang pwede mo i-assure na ikaw ay bibigyan ng ganitong klaseng loan kung hindi pa stable ang financial operation mo. Ipapakita mo na ikaw ay nag-into business na, kumita ba kayo in three years, anong business ba ang ini-engage nila,” she added.
Cacal, speaking before the AgriTalk forum organized by the DA and Manila Bulletin, said young farmers are the future of the country’s agricultural sector.
