The local office of the Social Security System (SSS) is reminding Palaweños that the implementation of the 12 percent increase in the contribution rate is effective April 1.

SSS Palawan corporate executive officer Abdul Abirin said alongside the hike from last year’s 11 percent is the opportunity for members to enjoy better retirement benefits under the new charter of the social insurance program.

He said the minimum and maximum monthly salary credits (MSCs) will also level up from P1,000 to P2,000 and P16,000 to P20,000 based on Republic Act (RA) No. 11199 or the Social Security Act of 2018.

SSS members who made payments in advance will have to visit their office after March because the effect of the hike will mark their records as “underpaid.”

The visit to their office is needed so confusion will be avoided.

“Para naman doon sa mga nag-advance payment, magkakaroon ‘yan ng effect na underpayment kasi ‘yong posting natin is monthly basis,” he added.

Meanwhile, Abirin said their branch in the province is proud to continuously surpass its target collection due to the cooperation of contributors and business establishments.

He said they are trying their best to improve and develop their payment facilities to avoid inconveniencing members, especially the self-employed.

Abirin also warned the members of SSS to beware of fixers and scammers and people using their name for transactions outside their premises.
