The Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Federation in El Nido is scheduled to conduct a simultaneous clean-up drive in all barangays on August 12 in response to the municipal government’s call for environmental protection to sustain the town’s tourism industry.
SK Federation Jestoni Enor said Tuesday their clean-up campaign will be implemented in El Nido’s 18 barangays as part of their local celebration of the National Youth Day, challenging every youth to be active in their respective villages.
“This time, nais natin gawin ito sa mga barangay naman at hindi lang palagi dito sa bayan,” Enor said.
He said the youth has an important role in conserving and protecting their town’s environment to ensure that the next generation would also have something to benefit from.
In October during their youth sports festival, Enor said it shall be a prerequisite for every player to join a clean-up drive first before they can compete in any game in the weeklong event.
“Suportahan natin ang ating mga SK chairmen sa inyong mga barangay,” urged Enor, for them to become environmentally responsible young people.
Meanwhile, the association of El Nido Travel and Tours Operators Association (ENTTOA) also expressed full support to the municipal government’s environmental protection appeal.
ENTTOA president Benly Lim, in a meeting on Monday, called for a unified effort to protect El Nido’s natural resources.
“Dito tayo kumikita kaya nararapat lang na alagaan natin ito at proteksyonan ang ating kalikasan. Patunayan natin na ang El Nido ay isang world class destination kaya dapat world class din ang ating serbisyo,” Lim said.
El Nido municipal administrative officer RJ de la Calzada, on the other hand, expressed gratitude to the SK and the ENTTOA for their effort to lead the clean-up drive and for leading the implementation of local ordinances on anti-smoking, zero plastic wastes, and waste segregation.
