International cruise ship Genting Dream docked at the City port on Philippine Independence Day, bringing 3,500 passengers who are mostly from Singapore.

The ship docked at 6 a.m. at the port of Puerto Princesa City on June 12 also carrying with it around 1,800 crew.

City tourism chief Aileen Cynthia Amurao said Genting Dream is the largest cruise ship that has visited the city so far.

She said Singapore is its home port.

“Actually, in the Philippines tayo lang [dito sa Puerto Princesa] ang pinuntahan nila. From Malaysia, dumiretso sila dito, and they have on [their schedule] Vietnam, Cambodia, and Bali in Indonesia,” she said.

Amurao added that the ship is on a five-day cruise, and will return to its home port in Singapore on Saturday, June 15.

Majority of the passengers are Singaporeans while the rest are of other nationalities.

About 90 percent of the total passengers went down from the ship to roam around the city before their 2 p.m. departure.

“Patuloy tayong nananawagan na ang tagumpay ng turismo at ang tagumpay nating lahat ay nakasalalay sa mga tao. Kinakailangan pgtulung-tulungan, natin ito… tayo ang key players ng lahat ng turismo. We are really soliciting the support of the local people para sa success ng ating tourism in the city,” she said.
