City Councilor Peter Maristela has proposed an ordinance imposing penalties for obstruction and unauthorized use of parking spaces exclusive for Persons with Disabilities (PWD) in the city.
The ordinance aims to provide full access to parking spaces allotted for PWD and to charge penalties for obstruction or unauthorized use.
Maristela said PWDs who have expressed their concerns to him about parking spaces have urged him to raise the issue as an ordinance.
“Imbes na para sa kanila ‘yon, pina-parkan ng iba na hindi naman PWD,” he said.
He expressed confidence the proposal will be approved by the City Council.
Maristela stated the proposed ordinance is in accordance with the Accessibility Law or Batas Pambansa Blg. 344 and Section 25 of Republic Act No. 7277 also known as Magna Carta for Disabled Persons.
His proposal has been referred to the Social Welfare Committee of the City Council for committee deliberations.
