The municipal government of El Nido has allocated P1 million for the salaries of workers of the El Nido Waterworks and Sanitation System (ENWSS) until the end of the year.
El Nido Vice Mayor Leonor Corral said last week to Palawan News that the amount will pay for the salaries of the workers from July to December 2018.
She said the request was made to the municipal council by Rene Acosta, head of the town’s economic enterprise department.
“Na-aksyonan na itong request nila for augmentation of funds. Itong trabaho sa waterworks ay mahalaga ito. Sila yung nag-i-inspect para sa repairs kaya kailangan din ng maraming tao,” she said.
Vice Mayor Corral said further the additional fund was approved by the municipal council because of the ENWSS’s already depleted budget as it has already disbursed P840 thousand as of June 2018.
Edgardo Orquista, head of the ENWSS, said that presently their office has five regular employees and 19 workers who are under job order contracts.
Another request made was to increase the salaries of job order workers from only P280 to P300, but it is a separate matter that needs more study, said Corral.
“Merong request na e-increase ng P300 kasi mababa kung P280 lang at ang hirap ng humanap ng worker kasi walang tumatanggap,” she added.
