Board Member Eduardo Modesto Rodriguez on Tuesday endorsed the municipality of Brooke’s Point to be the center of government of the proposed Southern Palawan province to the Sangguniang Panlalawigan.
He made the endorsement during a privilege speech that boasted about the town’s edges against neighboring Narra municipality that is also batting for the said opportunity.
Rodriguez pointed out that Brooke’s Point has everything from active business activities, local and national government institutions and offices, an airport and seaport, health, water, power, and communications facilities, and others.
It’s residents, he said, want their town to be the capital of the proposed province.
“With this kind of justification, I am also endorsing Brooke’s Point as a possible and highly recommended site of the provincial government,” he said.
His endorsement came after the Sangguniang Bayan of Narra on Monday, January 22, passed a resolution urging the three representatives of Palawan in the Lower House to consider their town as the provincial capital and seat of government in the south under the proposed division into three provinces.
In passing the measure, Narra Councilor Clarito Demaala IV stated that they want the Reps. Gil Acosta, Eric Abueg and Franz “Chicoy” Alvarez to consider their plea.
“Ang resolusyon ay sana i-consider na kapag nagpasa sila ng bill ay Narra ang piliin. Gusto namin sa bayan ng Narra na maging sentro kami sa panukalang Southern Palawan province,” he said.
But Demaala said it is really up to residents of the southern part of the province to decide where they want the center of government to be established.
“Kung hindi talaga madesisyunan kung saan ang magiging capital ay idaan na lang sa taong bayan sa pamamagitan ng maayos na talakayan. Let the people decide,” Demaala said.
