Rizal town employee shot dead by riding-in-tandem


Two unidentified men riding in tandem shot and killed an employee of the municipal government of Rizal on Saturday evening.

An initial police report obtained by Palawan News from the Palawan Police Provincial Office (PPO) identified the victim as John P. Acosta, 47, administrative officer II of the municipal government and a resident of Purok Balite, Barangay Punta Baja, Rizal.

Senior Insp. Ric Ramos, information officer of the PPO, said the victim was shot by one of the motorcycle-riding men in front of a store while buying a cigarette.

The police report claimed the victim and a companion identified as Romeo Reyes were on board a black Mitsubishi Delica vehicle traveling along national highway going south when they decided to stop by a roadside store where the shooting happened.

The victim was rushed to the Rural Health Unit (RHU) in Rizal, Palawan for medical treatment but was declared dead on arrival by local health authorities.

Recovered from the crime scene were two empty bullet cartridges.
