The office of 3rd Palawan District House Rep. Gil P. Acosta is offering a free tourism-related training program on hotel and restaurant management to interested applicants.
Annabel P. Lagrada, the scholarship coordinator in Rep. Acosta’s district office, said Thursday the training will be provided in partnership with the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).
Under the program, she said they will offer Bread and Pastry Production, Food and Beverage Services, Front Officer Services, and Housekeeping, geared towards equipping those who will qualify the necessary skills and attitude to provide quality service in the hospitality industry.
“Iyan ang [kailangan] ng boom ng industry dito sa ating lungsod. [‘Yong mga] yon talaga ang kailangan. Kasi nag-close ang Boracay, so lahat ng mga turista ay dito na sa atin napunta sa Palawan,” Lagrada told Palawan News.
Lagrada said they are already accepting applicants to fill 20 slots per course. Application forms are available in their office located at the Palawan Provincial Capitol.
The training for Bread and Pastry Production will be 18 days long, Food and Beverage Services will be done in 45 days, 56 days for Front Office Services, and 55 days for Housekeeping.
“Iyon talaga ‘yong kagandahan ng TESDA, kasi mabilisan. Maraming opportunities kasi,” said Lagrada.
She said their office has allocated P500 thousand for the livelihood training program to accomplish Rep. Acosta’s goal of providing additional livelihood opportunities in the tourism industry for the jobless to make their lives better.
“Iyong goal talaga ni congressman, ‘yong mga ka-barangay natin na walang trabaho [ay] magkaroon sila ng livelihood. ‘Yong iba nagtatayo talaga ng bakery, ‘yong iba nagtitinda-tinda. Marami naman tayong nag-open na bagong mga hotels ngayon dito so magagamit nila kaagad,” she said.
