A 45-year-old female local resident of Puerto Princesa City is the new patient under investigation (PUI) for suspected coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
Dr. Mario Baquilod, regional director of the Department of Health (DOH), confirmed Monday that another person has been placed under investigation in a private hospital in the city on Sunday afternoon.
The new PUI case is a female who has no travel history abroad. However, she works for a non-government organization (NGO) in Puerto Princesa City, which deals with foreign travellers.
“She’s a Filipino, 45-years-old, female, ang kanyang work requires yong coordination, meeting with mga foreigners and mga taga-Manila na workers, as well. Nag-start ang kanyang signs… may fever, may dry cough noong February 28 and then nag-seek siya ng consultation noong March 3 sa isang private hospital,” Baquilod said.
She was initially flagged as a PUI after her laboratory examination showed “atypical pneumonia” results.
Her symptoms also include difficulty in breathing and fever.
“Sinu-suspect na possible coronavirus so nakwan siya as under investigation… person under investigation and then yesterday I was informed and then we requested for a validation ng kanyang report so yon nga naka-confine siya ngayon and then today kinunan na siya ng specimen for submission to the RITM,” Baquilod added.
Specimen for COVID-19 confirmatory tests were gathered and are expected to be transported to the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine (RITM) this afternoon.
She has now been placed under isolation. (with a report from Ruth Rodriguez)
